Santa Rosa 4-H Newsletter

April 2002

Newsletter Editors: Ashlee Cabral, Raquel Brusher, Natalie Cannon

Well everyone, It’s spring and we hope that everyone is having a great time on Vacation. We would also like to commend Alexa Shaw for noticing that there was no question of the month in the March Newsletter. Very good investigating. We will work on that and are so glad that you have been keeping up on reading the newsletter. *The Newsletter Editors*

Project Information

Advanced Horse Project: The advanced horse project had it’s annual meeting on Monday and we talked about a program offered by the Mammoth Lakes Pack outfit were we would go up to Mammoth for a few days and see how we like it up there. We were also assigned a partner and a project that we would report on at the next Advanced Horse Project Meeting. Every meeting will be the third Monday of the month.

Horse Project: At the Horse project mounted meeting the Advanced riders worked on horsemanship and patterns then the Advanced riders helped the Intermediate and Beginning riders on Equitation. It was a great experience for everyone. At the non mounted meeting Char gave a demonstration on horse’s color blood lines. It was very informative. Our next mounted meeting will be the first Saturday of the month. The non mounted meeting will be every second Tuesday of the month.

Lamb Project: On March 30th the Lamb project went to pick out their lambs. The next meeting will be at Brittany Beghringer’s house. Any other questions you can contact Darlene at 338-0493.

Beef: We went to Tulare. But Will and Justin didn’t go. We all had a good learning experience. And Matt learned not to let a blonde cut his hair. We did alright showing our steers. We go to Santa Barbara next month, we hope to do better there.

Farm Equipment: We have been meeting every Tuesday after school and have been stripping the trailer. Last meeting we had problems with the sander so we built muck buckets for Lita and it was fun.

Rabbit Project: We have been practicing showmanship with are rabbits to prepare for the Santa Barbara Expo. This Saturday we are going to the Ventura County Rabbit Breeders Association event at the fairgrounds. We hope to learn more about judging, breeding and care for our animals.

If you have any other general questions about the meetings or projects you can contact either Mrs. Kraus at (805) 491-0121 or Mrs. Stayton at (805) 491-2608.
