INTRODUCING…

Hi, my name is Margaret Crane and I am nine years old. This is my first year in 4-H. I am in the swine project and it’s my favorite project. I have four animals, a rat, a bird, a hamster and a pig. A goal that I am looking forward to at the end of the year is the Ventura County Fair. My favorite thing about 4-H is getting to do projects with my animals.

Hello, my name is Cynthia Petterson. I am eight years old and this is my first year in 4-H. I currently attend Pine Crest Elementary with my sister Nicole. Pine Crest is located in Thousand Oaks. I am currently a second grader there. I am in the rabbit and the scrapbooking projects. The Rabbit project is my favorite project so far. I have a lot of animals, but I have one rabbit named Hopper that I use in the

rabbit project. Hopper and I plan on going to the Ventura County Fair at

Seaside Park. My favorite thing about

4-H is getting to learn about all different types of animals.

Hi, my name is Nicole Petterson. I am ten years old and I am currently a fourth grader at Pine Crest Elementary in Thousand Oaks. I attend this school with my sister Cynthia. This is my first year in 4-H. I am currently enrolled in the pygmy goat project and the horseless project. Both of these are my favorite. I have a lot of animals but my main project animal is my pygmy goat named Frosty. This year I plan to take Frosty to the Ventura County Fair show and see how we do. My favorite part about 4-H is learning about different animals.

Hi, my name is Amanda Reed. I am seventeen and I have been in 4-H for eight years. I am in the beef project. I have a lot of animals, such as dogs, cats, horses and much much more. I have two project animals. My project animals consist of a steer named Blacksnow, and a breeding heifer named Lollipop. This year Blacksnow, Lollipop and I plan to show at the Ventura County Fair. It is a goal that I am looking forward to. My favorite thing about 4-H is getting the experience in animals while also learning to be responsible.

PROJECT REPORTS

Lamb

We all have our lambs now and they have been weighed. We will start having regular meetings next week at the Behringer’s house on Monday April 22 at six p.m. On March 30th Holly and Alex Naylor took a small lamb to the First Christian Church for an Easter program. Some of us are getting ready for Santa Barbara Fair and Exposition. We will be bathing and shearing lambs this weekend along with working on Showmanship. In May the lamb project will be hosting a shearing demonstration.

Pygmy Goat

Lately we have been working with the Somis pygmy goat group on showmanship and essential care. We have been working hard with our babies to get them ready for the fair in August. Some of us will be going back to the breeder in Victorville to look at his new babies. Also, last month, we went to the Vet Science meeting and watched an ultrasound of two pregnant pygmy goats. We saw the head of one of the babies, as well as the heartbeat of another. It was a fun experience.

Swine

We had our first swine meeting in March. We discussed our overall plan for our pig care, and our responsibilities. We got our pigs on the 13th of April. We are now doing daily care and bonding with our pigs.
