FALL 2001 FOUNDATION MEETING SUMMARY

KERN CITY TOWN HALL
Bakersfield, CA
October 27, 2001

Dilys J. Jones from the House Ear Institute Marketing Department reported on new programs being initiated at the House Ear Institute and also recommended the video tape from the PBS documentary, "Sound & the Fury" which reported on the technology of implants in the middle ear.

Dilys further updated the Foundation on the California Hearing Screening Program (NHSP), a statewide program to identify hearing loss in infants. The Southern California Hearing Coordination Center (SCHCC) of the House Ear Institute in Los Angeles is contracted by the State to ensure that the NHSP program operates smoothly, that hearing screenings and services are of high quality, and that infants failing the screening and their families receive appropriate services in a timely manner.

The Southern California Hearing Coordination Center will provide technical assistance to California Children's Services (CCS) approved hospitals in Southern California which provide services to newborns.
